Central’s mission outreach begins right here in East Charlotte and extends across our city, our state, our nation, and the world. As a United Methodist congregation, we are connected to a wider network of churches and partners serving people in need near and far.
Through United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), we support disaster response, health initiatives, food security, and sustainable development around the world.
UMCOR Sunday, held each spring, is a special opportunity for churches worldwide to give so the church can respond immediately to disasters such as floods, storms, earthquakes, and famine. Your generosity helps UMCOR serve as the hands and feet of Christ wherever the need is greatest.
Central UMC supports three ongoing food ministries serving our neighbors with care and dignity.
Central Cares
Monthly food boxes for more than 60 families, including students from partner schools.
Central Feeds
Weekly meals for seniors in a nearby HUD-subsidized apartment community, building relationships and offering prayer.
Central Feeds on Wheels
Meal delivery for homebound or ill church members.
These ministries are supported by donations, volunteers, and partnerships with Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina.
Central partners with Albemarle Road Elementary and Middle Schools to support students and staff through tutoring, reading programs, lunch buddies, family nights, and special events.
Our free spring carnival welcomes more than 1,000 East Charlotte neighbors each year for a day of food, fun, and community connection.
Each summer, Central provides bookbags filled with school supplies for local students, helping families prepare for the school year.
Founded in 2011, Central’s Community Garden offers accessible raised beds for gardeners of all abilities. Produce grown in the garden helps support Central Cares and the wider community. The garden has received local and interfaith recognition for its impact.
Central members serve through a variety of local and regional ministries, including:
Habitat for Humanity
Room In The Inn
Men’s Shelter outreach
Crisis Assistance Ministry
Love INC
Hosting Alcoholics Anonymous meetings
Participation in Crop Walk and Christmas in July for the troops
Throughout the year, Central volunteers serve at Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina to help fight hunger in our community. Volunteer days are typically scheduled on weekdays, and our service also earns food credits that support the Central Cares pantry.
To volunteer or receive updates about upcoming workdays, please contact Jim Guimond by email or phone. Transportation can be arranged.
